Battling Climate Change to Preserve the Great Salt Lake’s Ecosystem
The Great Salt Lake is more than a Utah landmark; it’s a living, breathing ecosystem, home to millions of birds, brine shrimp, and microbial life found almost nowhere else on Earth. But with water levels at historic lows, this biological wonder is now at risk, and the consequences extend far beyond its shores.
At the Great Salt Lake Institute (in collaboration with Westminster University), a dedicated team of scientists is working to understand if the lake can survive. By bringing students and the community to the lake, they’re ensuring that people don’t just learn about its importance, they feel it. Filming their work, I saw how science and storytelling come together in the fight to save one of Utah’s most vital natural treasures.
